The present study
The purposes of this study were twofold. First, we investigated
relations between the Big Five traits and early adolescents’
domain-free, global LS. Based on previous findings in adult (e.g.,
DeNeve & Cooper, 1998) and youth samples (e.g., Proctor et al.,
2009), we hypothesized that neuroticism would be substantially
negatively correlated with early adolescents’ global LS.
Furthermore, we hypothesized that the remaining personality
traits (i.e., extraversion, openness, agreeableness, and conscientiousness)
would be significantly positively related with global
LS, but to a lesser degree (cf. Suldo et al., in press).
