When the RF wireless signals with carrier frequency ƒRF are intensity modulated onto an optical carrier fop by using optical Mach Zehn der modulator (MZM), it will result in an ODSB modulation format where the side bands are located at the RF frequency on either side of the optical carrier as shown in Figure 4 (a). This modulation scheme is simple to design and generate the ODSB signal. When the wireless signal is directly up converted by using ODSB, it will be effected by the dispersion effects of the fiber segment. The fiber chromatic dispersion increases directly proportional with increasing RF modulating frequency [1]. In terms of the spectral efficiency, the ODSB modulation scheme is not attractive.
