According to Dornyei (2007), interviews can help researchers gain insightful information that reflects participants’ personal thoughts. This study adopted the semi-structured interview to explore the participants’ beliefs about the question of ideal pronunciation teacher. Using the semi-structured interview allows the participants give their own opinions and be focused and guided at the same time (Suwannarak, 2010). Even though the semi-structured interview employed in this study was based on pre-prepared guiding questions, prompts or designed agenda, it was open-ended in nature and allowed enough room for the participants to elaborate on the topic being raised (Dornyei, 2007). Twenty participants participated in the interview. In fact, the participants were sought with regard to their majors. That is, two students from each academic school were randomly sought for the interview for the purpose of keeping a balanced representation of the university’s academic coverage. The interview was conducted in the participants’ mother tongue, Thai in order to minimize the risk of unintelligibility and incomprehensibility. Each interview lasted for about 20 minutes.
