This study aims to examine the types and possible causes of Lower Secondary school students' alternative conceptions in simplifying algebraic expressions. Specifically, the objectives of this study are:
1. to analyse the alternative conceptions made by Lower Secondary school students in simplilying algebraic expressions involving addition and subtraction of two or more than two algebraic terms;
2. to describe and classify the types of alternative conceptions made by Lower Secondary School students in simplifying algebraic expressions;
3. to identify the possible causes of these alternative conceptions in simplifying algebraic expressions.
