In developing and emerging countries where water is scarce, around 40% of domestic water is used to wash clothes, a task which is done by hand. Our Comfort One Rinse fabric conditioner reduces the amount of water needed to rinse out laundry detergent to one bucket rather than three. This can up to halve the volume of water needed per wash - around 30 litres – amounting to over 500 billion litres of water saved per year if all our laundry product users in Asia and South Africa were to use Comfort One Rinse, and were to use it correctly.
We have expanded our Comfort One Rinse range, sales are growing and we have a leading position in some markets. For example, in 2015, Comfort One Rinse accounts for more than 40% of the fabric conditioner market in Vietnam.
In 2015, through our Comfort brand, we partnered with the Vietnamese Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) to raise awareness of water scarcity in rural areas. Our aim is to educate mothers to change their laundry rinsing habits and reduce the amount of water needed through using Comfort One Rinse. We launched a water savings ideas contest for addressing water scarcity in rural areas with The Student Union, the largest student group in Vietnam and reached around 5000 young people.
Through our partnership with MONRE, we also hosted Vietnam’s World Water Day to raise awareness of water scarcity, reaching over 2000 people. People were able to try Comfort One Rinse and see how using it reduces the amount of water needed for washing clothes.
