“Hey, what's Ed doing there?” Lucy Pevensie said to Peter, her older brother. Edmund was supposed to be at Eustace's house and yet she had clearly seen him walking inside the bookshop.
She sneaked closer so she could see what the hell her brother was doing, Susan and Peter followed, kneeling next to her to get a good view.
Edmund walked past a lot of shelves before he saw you, completely unaware of his siblings staring. You had your back turned towards him and you were looking at a crime novel, knowing full well that the dick who owned the shop wouldn't let you buy it for the simple reason you were a girl and girls in his mind only liked romance novels. You felt Edmund's hands snake around your waist to hug you from behind. He kissed your neck softly and then nibbled at your ear. You smiled and leaned back into his chest.
“You know he won't let you buy it...” Edmund muttered in your ear, his eyes closed.
“I can still try...”
“It's okay, I'll buy it for you” He said, opening his eyes and making a movement to take the book
“No, Ed, you don't have to do that for me.” You argued
“Consider it a birthday present”
“My birthday's in June. And we're in February...”
“Valentine's day's present then...”
“Hmm okay...” You agreed, that seemed fair. The 14th of February was only a week away, anyway.
Edmund paid for the book and waited for you to come out of the shop, where he brushed his lips against yours.
Lucy, Peter and Susan were stunned. Peter had started to think Edmund was gay because he had never brought a girl home, Susan and Lucy were startled by Ed's behaviour, he was such a gentleman. They looked at each other and decided to follow you two further.
“What about going to the theatre?” Edmund asked.
“What are they playing?” You asked
“Something about the war”
“Oh, don't we have enough war already?” You said
“I—I thought about enlisting, you know”
“Edmund! Please, don't!”
“I didn't. But I thought about it...”
“Why?”
“Because I thought, you know, that the army might need some extra soldiers in their ranks... Plus I know how to lead an army, I could help” He explained
“Edmund, if it's about Narnia--”
“You don't believe me...” He cut in, looking at the ground with a fake smile. He dreaded that. Every time he told someone that person thought he was crazy and if it was a girl she always ended up breaking up with him.
“No, I do but, Ed, this is different... You need to fire a gun and-- Ugh Edmund please, don't” You didn't have the right words
“No you're right it's different. I wish I could go back to Narnia though... Bring you with me... You'd be a good queen” He added, smiling
“Would I now?” You asked, laughing
“You'd be the best. Better than Susan and Lucy” He said
“Edmund...”
“What?”
“Nothing” You laughed. Edmund's smile vanished when he saw something behind your back. You turned around but saw nothing.
“What's wrong?”
“Oh, I'm going to kill them!” He raged and ran past you to take someone by the collar of his shirt and pinning him against a wall. His blond hair was hanging loosely on his forehead. You recognised Peter, Edmund's older brother. His sisters were there too and trying to get Edmund off Peter. You decided to step in before either of them got killed.
“Edmund stop it!” You shouted. Edmund let go off his brother
“Don't you know how to respect people's privacy?! No, of course not, High King Peter can spy on people like that!”
“Ed calm down” Susan shouted
“Don't touch me” He snapped at his sister
“Edmund, please do calm down” You said and once again, he did as you told him. And then he turned back to his brother and broke his nose. Peter fell on the ground, groaning.
“Then why didn't you just tell us you had a girlfriend?” He asked
“Because if I told you you would've made fun of me.”
“I would not.”
Edmund chuckled darkly and walked over to you to bury his nose in your hair in a bone-breaking hug. You hugged back, slightly startled.
“Come on let's go home” Lucy said and they followed, Peter holding his nose to stop the bleeding.
They had been gone for a minute when you realised Edmund was crying
“Ed, why are you crying?”
“Nothing, it's stupid. Don't pay attention to me.” He said “(f/n)?”
“Hmm?”
“I love you”
“I love you to Edmund”
“No, I mean it I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you”
You were quiet for a moment.
“Me too Edmund.”
