Ashley, also 18, the participant in the second WBE program, was enrolled in a traditional co-op education program in which she spent approximately half of her school day in academic courses at school and half in a hair and esthetics salon in the community under the supervision of qualified hairdressers. Ashley’s co-op teacher, Lori, communicated with the workplace supervisors in the salon and with Ashley by e-mail and telephone. Prior to going into the workplace, Ashley completed a preparatory co-op program of about five weeksinaclassroomattheschool;studentsmovedinto the workplace as soon as Lori judged they were ready.
