Dear friends..
Over the past few years, ALL of us living in the Arab world have been disillusioned, disappointed and simply worn out by chaos and destruction in our countries. Since 2011, we have had first hand experience of euphoric revolutions followed by massacres, friends & relatives being detained, kidnapped, tortured and even assassinated for simply fighting for freedom & justice - a better life. Many of us have consequently tuned out - we're politically fatigued and emotionally desensitized - a disposition which is giving our governments, warmongers and deceitful demagogues free reign to reek havoc wherever they see fit, however they see fit. Likewise, many find what is happening in #Yemen too hard to comprehend & too overwhelming to take on as yet another cause. Bottom line is that many of your governments are now complicit in bombing my country and you CAN oppose it, at least personally if not collectively! Likewise, to the people of Egypt, Lebanon, Syria & Palestine -- the people of Yemen saw your struggles as their own. The first demonstration I ever attended in Sanaa aged 13 was in support of Palestine. I lived in Palestine and Egypt and saw the struggles of their people as my own. I therefore urge everyone to take a stance and express your opposition to whats going on. It's not much but it's something.
Yemen - already crippled by a humanitarian crisis and in-fighting - is under heavy Saudi/Coalition bombardments, sanctions, blockades, bombed airports and visa restrictions, my people are trapped in, and me and other Yemenis longing to be with our families in this devastating time are trapped out! #Yemen is edging towards a point of no return which will have devastating consequences on the region as a whole. Turning a blind eye to what is happening there because it is "too far" or "too insignificant" or "too complicated" will not make it go away. Nor will this war rid Yemen of radicalization or terrorism - violent foreign intervention over the past 10 years is what created it in the first place. Once again, ordinary people are now trapped and suffering. My entire family. My friends. Millions of the most amazing, generous & warm-hearted people in the Arab world who have had no hand in this mess are the people ultimately paying the price. You CAN show your support. We can create waves using social media and force our media outlets to stop tarring the issues in Yemen with the tired old sectarian brush which has made way for Saudi/Iran to use our county as a battlefield. Yemenis need humanitarian aid, food and education NOT more bombs to completely destroy it beyond repair. So I URGE YOU ALL to support our campaign in saying "ENOUGH" War - on all fronts. We've ALL simply had enough. Yemenis under airstrikes and abroad are posting personal messages, photos and testimonies on twitter under the hashtags #KefayaWar & #OurYemen to highlight the human side of war. Wherever you are, whoever you are, help us make the ordinary 25 million people of Yemen be heard! #KEFAYAWAR (Join our page here: KefayaWar # OurYemen )
