Thank you for addressing the indirect communication piece in your post. Expatriates from the West have to realize that negotiations take some time and it is important to establish a long term relationship with those you are negotiating with. Westerners are too much in a rush to get a deal done and do not take the time to get to know one another. Sometimes getting to know one another can work towards your advantage during negotiations.
Thank you for pointing out the fact that in some areas of Japan English is rarely spoken. Children in this situation will need to go through a crash course in learning Japanese. This will take extra time for the child to adjust to the school system.
