A graphical presentation of removal trends along with time-dependent variations of
effluent concentrations of COD fractions of all set-ups are presented in Figure 3.1. It can
be observed that the COD are efficiently removed in all reactors including UASB control
reactor. However, better removal efficiency was observed in the reactors containing EM
consortium. COD concentration decreased with time and EM microbes seem to play
important role in facilitating the biodegradation processes of organic material. The
average percentage removal of COD is presented in Table 3.1.
