5.3. Educational objectives
As noted, instructors can customize the project to suit specific goals or time allotments. When considering
which parts to assign or emphasize, instructors may wish to consider the following learning
objectives for the different sections.
LO 1 – Income and Taxes – Students will identify salary information related to a career path of interest.

LO 2 – Income and Taxes – Students will understand the basic components of taxes imposed on a U.S.
citizen and analyze the impact of taxes on earnings. (Assessment: Survey questions 6 and 7, Items
2.6 and 2.7.)
LO 3 – Budgeting and Repaying Debt – Students will evaluate the impact of significant expenses such
as housing and transportation on a personal budget. (Assessment: Items 3.9.2 and 3.9.3.)
LO 4 – Budgeting and Repaying Debt – Students will evaluate the impact of debt (student loans and
credit card) on a personal budget. (Assessment: Survey question 8; Item 3.9.4.)
LO 5 – Long-Term Savings – Students will begin to understand the importance of the time value of
money and saving for longer-term goals using both pre-tax and after-tax accounts. (Assessment:
Survey questions 9 and 10; Items 4.2.5 and 4.3.5.)
