Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20) (Bagby et al., 1994). To assess difficulty identifying and describing emotions, we used an abbreviated version of the TAS-20 (Bagby et al., 1994); specifically, we used the 12 items corresponding to the first two factors: difficulty identifying emotions (e.g. “When I am upset, I don’t know if I’m sad, frightened or angry”) and difficulty describing emotions (e.g. “It is difficult for me to find the right words for my emotions”).
