It quickly became clear that sustainability is
not confined to environmental issues alone.
Today, the three-pillar model of sustainability,
focusing on environment, economy and
the social dimension, is widely accepted
(Source: Brundtland Report – Report of the
UN World Commission on Environment and
Development). In 1992, at the first major
sustainability conference in Rio, an international
partnership for sustainable development
was created defining global sustainability
goals and measures – from poverty
reduction to species conservation.
