Construction Cost Inflation
Roadway construction cost inflation can be tracked using the U.S. Federal Highway
Administration’s Bid Price Index (FHWA BPI) and the Bureau of Labor Statistics’s Bridge and Highway construction Producer Price Index (BHWY PPI). Roadway construction and maintenance costs increased rapidly from 2003 through 2006 due to rising cost of labor and commodities used in highway projects, such as fuel, steel, cement and asphalt.
