According to our study, there is a higher prevalence of diabetes in patients with acute stroke in the age group of 51 - 60 years, which is in agreement with some findings9 . However, other studies found a maximum prevalence among the 41 - 50 years age group6 . The majority of the strokes were ischaemic and were mainly in the euglycaemic patients. The present study shows a high prevalence of known diabetics presenting with acute stroke (24%); the prevalence of stroke in known diabetics is 8.5%10 and some other studies found it to be 17%11.
