Dedicated sensing devices may not serve the purpose of continuous monitoring due to their static nature and the possibility of the very device getting damaged during the disaster. On the other hand. modern-day smartphones are ubiquitously equipped with the accelerometer sensors and with a considerably good processing capability to analyze the accelerometer data sensed by the phone, this motivated us to design a smartphone based Seismometer for monitoring explosive events in the vicinity of the smartphone device. This makes sensing handy to the mobile users and serve the purpose of continuous monitoring and the detection may be made more effective due to the mobile nature of them and tlie undeniable fact that they are continuously connected over the network.
