There are three strains of xylose-fermenting LAB, which are, Leuconostoc lactis SHO-47, Leuconostoc lactis SHO-54, and Lactococcus lactis subsp. IO-1. Lactococcus lactis subsp. IO-1 strain is a highly efficient l-LA producer that ferments xylose as well as glucose through PK pathway and PP pathways. Leuconostoc lactis SHO-47 and SHO-54 were found to produce d-lactic acid from xylooligosaccharide efficiently.
