6.2 What is Inside a Typical Cell?
-What are the different parts of typical cells?
-What are the functions of each part of cell?
The Euglena is a unicellular organism. It is interesting because it has both the features of plant and animal cells. For example, the Euglena has chloroplasts which enable it to carry out photosynthesis and make its own food much like a green plant cell. However, unlike the green plant cell, the Euglena does not have a cell wall. Here, the Euglena shares a common feature of typical animal cells which lack a cell wall.
In recent years, scientists have conducted research on Euglena and found that these unicellular cells can be used to produce aviation fuel. These Euglena cells have very high oil content and this oil can be extracted from the cells.
A cell contains many parts. Some of these parts, including the nucleus, make up the living material of the cell.
