Using pine seedlings grown in a mixture of biotite and quartz (Fig. 2B), Calvaruso et al. (2006) demonstrated,through a mineral-weathering budget approach, that the inoculation of a selected B. glathei strain PML1(12) significantly enhanced the release of magnesium and potassium from biotite 1.4- and 1.5-fold, respectively, compared to non-inoculated plants.
In addition, strain PML1(12) significantly improves pine growth and modifies root morphology (increase in the number of
lateral roots and root hairs).
