Health promotion is “the process of enabling people to increase control over, and to improve, their health” and the issues that are identified as important health determinants (WHO, 1986).
The overarching goal of health promotion is to achieve health for all, and to enhance individual and societal well-being.
To move us toward this outcome, the field has developed an ethical and theoretical body of knowledge regarding the holism of health and its determinants (Rootman and Goodstadt, 1996).
