Normally, stem cells can either be obtained directly from the bone marrow - with the donor going under a general anaesthetic - or they can be collected directly from the blood. This latter method is becoming more common. However, donors might have to take medication to give their system a boost after each donation. "There is nothing to fear if you donate stem cells, because in a healthy person these cells regenerate and then produce new blood cells all the time . Most importantly, donors are giving the gift of life to another human being." said Assoc.Prof.Tanin. For Ms.Nantanat the clock is ticking, but she is hopeful.
