Leaf venation
The veins of a leaf contain the vascular bundles. These vascular bundles transport food and water throughout the leaves. Study the vein pattern of both leaves shown in the photographs. Con you describe their vein pattern?
Midrib Leaf stalk
Leaf A has a network venation pattern. The veins of leaf A run from the centre of the leaf (the midrib) to the edges of the leaf. Leaf B has a parallel venation pattern. The veins of leaf B run fro the bottom of the leaf (the stalk) to the top of the leaf.
Dicotyledons, such as balsam plants have network venation patterns on the leaves.
Monocotyledons, such as maize plants, have parallel venation patterns.
