Two men were arrested by the police after they had so a stolen painting to an art gallery in Guildford. The owner of the gallery claimed that he had bought the painting in good faith; unaware that it had been stolen. The painting, a portrait of a young woman in a wide brimmed straw hat sitting under the tree, was own by Marie Gillers, age 84, She claimed that the painting had been given to one of her ancestors by artist. She had owned it since 1950 when it was given to her by an aunt as a wedding present. The painting had been stolen from her house two weeks previous to the arrest of the two men.
