Write About Shared Interests
Another approach to ensuring a positive Empathy Index to is to mention
specific interests, activities, or experiences that your readers share. For
example, instead of saying “The company is pleased to announce that
the ABC software upgrade will be installed on Wednesday, allowing more
research to be done in-house,” say “Researchers will be glad to know that
the ABC software upgrade will be installed on Wednesday, allowing more
research to be done in-house.” The term researchers is an example of a
shared interest.
Think about what you and your readers have in common. Are you
all members of the same team or group? Do you go fly-fishing with them?
Are they interested in computer updates? Whatever the shared interest,
activity, or experience, weave a reference or two about it into your writing
to increase the impact of your message.
