In the model of Lardon (Lardon et al., 2009) the processing of
wet algae is incomplete, as it ends with biodiesel and an unused oil cake
containing 2.84 times more energy than the biodiesel. Furthermore,
the energy required to separate and dry the oilcake is not
taken into account. The LCA (Life-Cycle Assessment) study of Clarens
et al. (2010) only focused on the cultivation of the algal biomass,
without taking the downstream conversion processes into account.
