“Roles and Restrictions of Care”. This theme included two sub themes.
‘Parent as therapist’ reflected parents’ feelings that they
were being asked to increasingly take on “therapeutic” roles previously
done by professionals. ‘The fine balance’ referred to parents
perceptions that access to multidisciplinary community-based
services was limited to a narrowly defined range of perceived
needs where parents and/or their child with ASD had to function
neither too well nor too poorly.
