evaluation of the cognitive functions using
arabic standardization Stanford Binet (4th) edition
scales [8,9], to assess Vocabulary, Comprehension,
Verbal Relations test, Abstract Visual Reasoning test,
Quantitative Reasoning test, Memory for Sentences
test, Bead Memory test and Intelligent Quotient. The
test was chosen for its psychometric properties, acceptability
to children, and relevance to their daily lives.
The evaluation was performed by a qualified clinical
child psychologist, whowas unaware of the status (control
or case) and within a period ± 2 weeks apart from
the neurophysiological study and after 2 days from inrelation to blood transfusion to avoid the effect of exhaustion
from transfusion upon the results of cognitive
function tests.
