Though many studies show the benefits of higher education i.e. higher incomes, lower
unemployment rate, some scholars argue that these advantages are not specifically
related to attending the university. Stephanie Owen and Isabel Sawhill accepted the
idea that there is a significant difference in life-time earning between people with
Bachelor’s degree and ones with high school diploma, but they argued that there are
also other factors that should be considered before claiming that attending university
is a universal key for success. These factors include school type, school selectivity
level, major, occupation after graduation, and the probability of completing a degree
(Owen & Sawhill, 2013).
