Antibiotics are one of the pillars of modern medicine. The misuse of these drugs for prophylactic purposes or for enhancing the growth of livestock is known to exert a selection pressure on microbial communities, which ultimately favors the spread of resistant organisms. Due to the irrational application of antibiotics, the number of pathogens that do not respond to first-line therapeutics steadily increases. This, in turn, urges the need for the discovery of novel drugs, especially for the treatment of nosocomial infections
