1. Please revise the study title as follows:
- The title should have the same meaning in both Thai and English. It is currently too broad and does not specify the test materials. The Thai word “ใหม่” (new) is not found in the English version.
- Remove “ศึกษา” and “study of the” from the title.
- Use another word instead of “สารชนิดใหม่”, for instance “สารไล่ยุง” as stated in the proposal. Please also use “ที่มีต่อยุง” instead of “ที่มีกับยุง”
Please make these changes consistent across all documents (Research proposal, Participant Information Sheet, Informed Consent Form).
2. Why has objective 2, “to compare efficacy of mosquito repellent materials with a gold standard repellent”, not been addressed in the methodology section?
3. Item B4. Expected Duration of the study:
3.1 The duration of this study (2 years) is too long. Please explain why it is needed.
3.2 Please add “after approval from the Ethics Committee” after the statement “2 years”
4. Please rewrite the testing procedure by adding the following information:
4.1 How many times do volunteers have to enter into the chamber for 2 hour periods?
4.2 How many kinds of repellent materials will be tested in this study?
4.3 Since there are 3 mosquito species, which will be tested with each volunteer? Or will the 50 mosquitoes contain all species?
4.4 How far from the volunteer is the repellent placed? Is it placed in the chamber or outside? Will the volunteer already be wearing protective clothing? Please describe this in the proposal and also in the Participant Information Sheet.
5. Why are volunteers separated into groups of two men and two women? Please clarify.

6.1 Please add “Willing to participate and sign informed consent form” to the inclusion criteria. Please also add this to item B5.8.1.
6.2 Where and how will you recruit healthy volunteers? Is there any advertisement? If yes, please provide it.
6.3 Does “Healthy person checked by a medical doctor” mean that volunteers have to provide a medical certificate? Who pay for the doctor’s fee?
6.4 What questions will be asked during the interview with volunteers?
7. How many test materials will be used with the 3 mosquito species? Which are they? Please describe clearly in the Mosquito repellent section (page 7 of 16) and in the Participant Information Sheet.
8. Item B5.2 Diagram of study design:
8.1 Please add “sensitivity testing” to the inclusion criteria
8.2 Please add a diagram showing “Process of informed consent”, before the diagram “Volunteers are……interviewed……..”, since the interview cannot be done before singing the informed consent.
8.3 Please revise the diagram to correspond with the study procedure.
9. Please give more details about the calculation of the sample size in item B5.5 and also provide the reference of FDA.
10. Item B5.8.1 Inclusion criteria: Age of volunteer in this item states “20-60 years old” but in the Participant Information Sheet it states “25-60 years old”. Please make it consistent.
11. Please state the age condition in the exclusion criteria, item B5.8.2.
12. Please add the statement “Volunteer can withdraw from the study at any time” to item B5.8.3, Withdrawal criteria.
13. What are the risks using mosquitoes in this study? Please specify in this item and in the Participant Information Sheet.

15. Item C4. Informed consent process: Please describe who the volunteers are, and where and who will announce and explain the study, invite them to participate, provide the Participant Information Sheet, give them a chance to ask questions, and obtain written informed consent before the interview.
16. Item C7. Compensation for research participants: “Volunteer will receive 375 baht/sample for compensation”. Define sample. Will the volunteer receive 375 baht each time they enter the chamber, or per test with a new kind of repellent material? How much money (total) will be given to each volunteer. Please specify clearly. Please also use “for lost time” instead of “for compensation”. Also include this information in the Participant Information Sheet.
17. Please specify the following information in item C12. Confidentiality:
17.1 Who can access the raw data of this study and how do you protect it?
17.2 How long will the data be maintained and how will you dispose of it?
