members in a quality project, based on observation of
care and patient story telling (RCN 1997).
The selected unit had a bed capacity of 30 that
housed chronic care (rehabilitation) patients. The staff
consisted of 23 registered nurses; four logistic
co-workers; nine therapists and a supervising medical
doctor. The head nurse had more than 15 years of
experience as a clinical leader. The description of this
setting has been limited to strike a balance between the
privacy guarantee offered to the participants and the
generalizability of the results.
