The individuals selected for contact provided significant insight into the roles and functions performed by the various channel members. They represent firms actively involved in the collection, storage, sorting, transportation, retromanufacturing and marketing of recyclable and recycled materials. The channel members and state agencies within Ohio also offered a unique perspective for examining recycling issues. In 1988, the state passed House Bill 592, requiring the preparation of a comprehensive solid waste plan for Ohio. The bill requires a written plan from each of the state's districts; however, it also permits each district individually to determine the most appropriate means for recycling. Several approaches have emerged for processing recyclable material and offer practical insight into how channel members operate, the issues confronting the reverse channel, and anticipated changes.
