“The 2016 Olympic games in Rio are in jeopardy! Sources tell us the water way where hundreds of athletes will be competing in is severely polluted. These waters present serious health risks for people who will potentially be swimming, rowing, and doing other aquatic events in.
Proof of the infected waters were proven when several athletes became ill and developed stomach infections after participating in test events in the water way. During the games, a total of 1,400 Olympians will be exposed to the dirty waters.”
“The city of Rio De Janero offered a $4 billion dollar city sanitation expansion to help clean the waters and prevent further pollution. However, efforts were ineffective, as the city failed to build 8 promised water treatment facilities. The water where aquatic events in the Olympics were supposed to happen still presents as 1.7 million times more polluted than the levels that would be unacceptable on a Californian beach in the USA."
“The only contribution made to the cleaning of these waters made was a $1 billion dollar grant from the government. Treated sewage water in municipal areas rose from 17% to 50%. However, despite these efforts, the city’s water ways still shows to be a polluted area unfit for sporting events. Types of pollution found along city beaches and lagoons derived from Rio’s Guanabara Bay include plastic bags, wrappers, condoms, and human waste."
"If not enough efforts are made to clean the water, Rio may have to move their location for outdoor water events.
