A number of interventions to control and prevent vector-borne diseases exist. Some will be more appropriate than others,
depending on factors such as:
• local ecology and behavior of the vector species, including its
habitats, flight range, feeding preferences and seasons
• local epidemiology of the disease
• human activity such as irrigation and animal farming
• socioeconomic conditions of affected communities
• cultural context
• feasibility of applying interventions in specific settings
acceptable to the population
• environmental change
