SOCIAL SECURITY CARD INFORMATION
A Social Security card is a card that gives you permission to work in the US on-campus only. It is not an
identification card, and most students do not need one. F-1 visa holders can only get a Social Security card if they
have a part-time job on-campus. If you find a job on campus, you will need to get a Social Security card before
beginning to work. You have to go to a Social Security Office to fill an application for a Social Security card.
There is no charge for a Social Security card. You must take a letter from a Student Services and Immigration
Advisor, a letter from your potential employer on the UW campus, your passport, I-20, and your Husky Card to
the Social Security Office to apply for this card.
