Relatively few studies have used the TPB as a framework for developing interventions,
despite the fact that the theory would suggest a number of interventions focusing on different
components of the model. Brubaker and Fowler ( 1990) did examine the effect of persuasive
messages tackling behavioral beliefs upon men's intentions to perform testicular selfexamination
in response to the threat of cancer. A persuasive message was found to increase
intentions to perform testicular self-examination compared to a no message control.
