Our study has certain limitations. Although
the surgeons had high adherence to the initial
irrigation protocol during the index surgery, the
rate of surgeons’ adherence to the originally assigned
pressure and solution for the 615 patients
who required a secondary operative irrigation
and débridement decreased to 75.9% for irrigation
pressure and 79.3% for irrigation solution.
This level of adherence is still relatively high,
and we found a detrimental effect of soap that
any intervention crossover would tend to obscure
