Cloaked at first as fairly harmless debates (often among human
resources (HR) departments and unions) under headings
such as “Industry 4.0 and the Future of Work,” an alarmist variant
of these debates now suggests that, at least in richer societies, we
should immediately take action and provide everybody with a basic
government-supplied income to prepare for the day when robots
do all the work and essentially take over. Concrete figures for
such a condition-less basic income are already being discussed.
