Once you have divided the goal statements into a few categories and tallied the number of “votes” in each, compare those categories with your instructional goals. How well do they match, overall? For example, are there categories of student goals that don’t overlap with course goals? For those categories that do match or overlap, are the students’ rank orderings of importance in line with yours? Are students’ goals much broader or narrower than yours? Do the students’ estimates of difficulty fit with yours?
