The main altar of the temple is dedicated to the Lady of the Sea.
People come here to offer prayers for safe passage overseas, and also to make more standard prayers in which they offer fruit, rice, and money.
Beyond the altar for the Lady of the Sea is the shrine for Guanyin.
In terms of our theme of “human nature,” we can see that this temple, like so many others, shows the Chinese willingness to bring together as many deities as possible to increase the efficacy of divine assistance here—more deities means more help.
People are always looking for ways to get the most benefit from the divine.
