Nigeria has about 3.5 million hectares suitable for sesame production but only about 300,000 hectares
were being cultivated largely by small holder farmers who cannot afford the ever increasing cost of farm inputs
such as fertilizers, improved seeds, chemicals and lack access to informations on improve farm practices that
can boost yield of the crop (Anon. 2009). The potential for commercial processing of sesame in Nigeria is also
great because sesame can be processed into a number of forms for various uses such as oil, meal, paste,
confectionnaries and bakery products (Anon. 2009).
