A 3 phase 440V Induction motor is subjected to run as a

hydro power stations alternators are used to produce electrical
power. They have a governor system so as to regulate the speed
to meet the grid frequency. When it comes to the matter of
Micro-Hydro power plant governing mechanism is a bit expensive.
So we use an induction motor and provide an external
force to the shaft subjecting it to run as an induction generator
[11]. The main advantage of this mechanism is that it does not
require any governing mechanism. The induction motor will
work in the same frequency as that of grid frequency. The
change in frequency in grid also brings about change in the
motor frequency subsequently. Thus when this motor is made
to run as a generator the frequency of the generated power
always remains the same as that of the grid frequency. The
only parameter that varies is the current. When the machine is
powered with full pressure, the rated current is been produced
and is fed back to the grid. As the grid is an infinite bus, the
change in load in the grid is met by the major hydel power
plant making this system safe from over loading. Another main
advantage of this system is that it restricts feeding current to
the grid when the grid is powered off. That is if the grid
is temporarily switched off, for maintenance or some other
reasons, chances of electrical shock to the layman are avoided
(anti-islanding feature). Another main advantage is that the
system can directly be fed to the low tension (LT) side of the
grid. So the need for setting up a substation or connecting
the system to the substations with long transmission lines can
be avoided. This is a distributed generation scheme which
eventually reduces the transmission losses
