“transformational” (Weibel 92) enabling them to find themselves as well as
form a stronger “connection to the world” (Kendrick 81) through the interaction
with new experiences and people resulting, in some cases, in changes
in the way in which individuals perceive and view the world (Weibel 92).
Associated with this is a growing belief that escapism can mean more than
a desire to avoid the realities of life; it can also be a form of therapy (Bayley
22). Creative bibliotherapy has been used successfully to help and encourage
gifted students to discuss important issues, supporting their additional
emotional needs (H´ebert and Kent 170).
