There is good news, however, in the fight against cancer. New screening and diagnostic technology, along with enhanced educational strategies, has led to a significant reduction in cancer mortality. Approximately 8.9 million American have survived cancer. As noted earlier, however, 72% to 95% (National Cancer Institute, 2002) of cancer survivors are experiencing cancer treatment-related problems.
