This test was carried out to validate the food products as carriers for transporting bacterial cells into the human gastrointestinal tract. This was demonstrated by the recovery of L. rhamnosus IMC 501® and L.paracasei IMC 502® from 40 out of 40 fecal samples (collected at the end of the consumption period) while the strains were not detected in any of the fecal samples obtained before the consumption of synbiotic food products. Both Lactobacillus strains have been detected
from fecal samples of the synbiotic group (Fig. 4) but not from those of the control group.
