When planning and drafting shared writing and going on to develop it further through revising and editing, ICT can be integral in engaging and motivating children. The IWB can be use to record their contributions, give vocabulary choices, draft and cut and paste them to re-sequence the piece, utill everyone is happy with the result. The children can then move to working further on the same text or developing one of their own in groups on the classroom computer or in your school’s ICT suite.
Any text type can be written collaboratively during a shared writing activity. It is particularly useful, however, in order to bring reading and writing closely together, to use shared reading texts as a starting point for shared writing. You might, for example:
