In August 2014, the American Bar Association (ABA)
issued a cybersecurity resolution that included a call for
law fi rms to “take special care to ensure that they have a
strong security posture and a well-implemented security
program.”2
In noting that “[t]he threat of cyber attacks
against law fi rms is growing,” the resolution stressed
that “[l]awyers and law offi ces are facing unprecedented
challenges from the widespread use of electronic records
and mobile devices” and are targets because “[t]hey collect
and store large amounts of critical, highly valuable
corporate records, including intellectual property, strategic
business data, and litigation-related theories and
records collected through e-discovery.”
