The controversial issue needed to be discussed is whether Cumbria, a small town in England, should welcome the nuclear waste storage project. Let’s hear from Eddie first.
I really feel that Cumbria is not the best place geologically in the UK and the government must focus on dumping the waste underground in the safest place, not the easiest.
I think you’re right saying Cumbria has a unique and famous landscape which needs to be protected. Would anyone come to Cumbria if a nuclear waste storage facility was built here?
Are you saying that this nuclear waste project will destroy local tourism industry?
Yes, definitely. We fear that if the area becomes known as the place where nuclear waste is stored underground, tourism industry will be affected immensely.
I don’t think that’s the case
Go ahead, Elaine.
In my opinion, the basic problem is the fear. The government should do something to ensure that dumping nuclear waste underground is safe.
