Biomass is heading for a great future as renewable energy source. It not only is available in large
quantities, it also is the only renewable energy source that is suitable for the sustainable production of
(generally carbon containing) transportation fuels and chemicals. A promising option to do so is to
convert biomass into a biosyngas by gasification and subsequently synthesize the required products.
This potential of biomass is very important within the policy targets of the European Union to increase
