At risk of taking this somewhat off-topic, I shot some pics of a monster bear skull compared to a large (but not record-sized, about 500lbs or so) African lion skull. The lion scores just under 25", and the bear about 28 3/4" (I think the biggest modern day bear skull ever recorded is that of a brown bear coming in at just under 31", so this is only a couple inches shy of that all-time record). You can see that the canines in the lion are longer, the lion's jaw is shorter, its palate wider, and the bear's jaws are longer and have a bigger gape due to its longer snout. Though you can't see it well in the pic, the bone structure of the bear is quite a bit heavier and robust - the bear skull is much heavier than the lion. The ruler in the pics is 12" or 30.5cm long, BTW.
